One of three editors who created a rebranded TODAY, which became FLORIDA TODAY.
On the night it premiered, Hastech PagePro keyboard SAVE-GET keys had not been loaded and were not functional. Verbally called out intricate coding — some as many as 80 characters individually — to designers/paginators in lieu of these valuable shortcuts. The color schemes used in FLORIDA
TODAY inspired the initial format of USA TODAY.
Many Gannett leaders, including chairman Al Neuharth, were on hand (above) and cheering our efforts. Although we were a couple of hours past deadline, there was a huge surprise champagne celebration for our exhausted employees.
